Our Story
The idea for DC Works began to take shape in 2014, when Marko Husu and Vesa Kolu were just finishing their third hyperscale server room.
Until then, the duo had mostly worked in traditional industries such as power plants, paper mills, and oil industry projects. Which were, of course, more common in Finland at the time than data centers.
It was clear that the amount of information circulating around the world would not decrease, but rather grow exponentially, with no end in sight. All this exponentially growing data requires data centers, the construction, commissioning, and maintenance of which in turn requires specialized experts with sufficient know-how to operate and understand this special environment and level of requirements. Internationally competitive, internationally managed hyperscale server room campuses are among the most challenging of all – which is largely what makes them so attractive.
With Marko and Vesa’s work history in fast-paced, high-pressure industrial projects, and both of them always approaching problems from a technical perspective, this duo was a perfect fit for these fast-paced and challenging data center projects. Marko took on the role of project manager at DC Works, while Vesa became site manager at the newly established company.
After a quick initial recruitment process, the company was ready to start conquering a new Finnish industry and training its workforce for its first hectic and fast-paced mega-project.
During its first year, DC Works delivered a hyperscale server room, including full automation and electrical control installations for the entire facility. The company employed more than 20 people during its first year. Recruitment, staff training, and the building of DCW’s own core team played a key role in conquering the new environment, which went better than expected given the circumstances. Since then, the company has built a reputation as a reliable partner in fast-paced and challenging projects, gaining the trust of international companies.
After three years of operation, the company also entered the oil industry, supplying Neste Oyj refineries in Naantali and Porvoo with automation and instrumentation installations for shutdown projects (TA17 and POHR), assembling analyzers and sampling units, and expanding its international operations to five countries.
By 2020, the company had created a sustainable foundation for its operations, grown into a company with over 30 installers, and set its strategy toward strong growth and increasing its visibility across Europe. The goal is to achieve a position of trust for all critical and challenging installations in data centers and industry.
